The letter of the Port form the road is a documents used by the transporters and the logistic operators in which they establish the responsibilities and obligations of the parties in the contract of the international transport of the Goods from the highway.
This document is created by the exporter company (who figure out how remittent in the document) that could be delegate this functions to the transporter and to the agency of the highway transporter. In any case, the responsible of the information, which is included in the documents, is the exporter. The consignee signed the document at deliver the Goods, for that the receiving company could have this documents as the evidence that Goods are entered in their premises and justified their payment to the transporter.
The letter of the port isn’t the procession title neither it’s negotiable.
Transport documents lies at the heart of international trade transactions. The shipping line, airline, international trucking company, railroad, freight-forwarder or Logistics Company issues these documents.
To the shipping company and freight forwarder transport documents provide an accounting record of the transaction, instructions on where and how to ship the goods and a statement giving instructions for handling the shipment.
There is the different type of the documents for each mode of transport (CMR for road transport, Bill of Lading for shipping, etc.). Those goods carried in multimodal transport units (mainly containers) use a document called FIATA multimodal Bill of Lading (FBL). The responsibility for the management and processing of shipping documents will depend on the sale conditions (Incoterms) agreed between de parties.
